Research
I. Collaborative Research: In collaboration with the Departments
of Environmental Sciences and Business Management of the University,
the Department plans to take up research studies.
II. Area of Research: Research is proposed on patterns of energy
consumption, water management, bio-gas users, human resource management,
disaster management, ecology, and on fields related to population,
environment and development. These research activities are being
worked out in consultation with the concerned faculties.
Extension Activities
The extension activities are being coordinated by the Social
Relevance Cell of the Department which has started functioning
with the following programmes.
I. Devakund: A study tour was undertaken to Devakund in the heart
of Mayurbhanj district of Orissa for survey of the tribes of the
nearby villages surrounding Devakund hill area.
II. Nuapadhi: The teachers visited Nuapadhi village for starting
awareness campaign on population and health problems concerning
the villages.
III. Kasafal: A survey of socio-economic and demographic profile
of the fishermen community was conducted in Kasafal village near
Chandipur.
Seminar/Lecture
The Department organises seminars on some of the prominent annual
days like World Population Day, World Health Day, World Environment
Day, etc., in addition to regular seminars of the Department with
presentations by students, teachers and external experts. In this
series, Dr. R. N. Kanungo, ADMO, Balasore, delivered a lecture
on "Population Growth and Reproductive Health," on the
World Population Day, July 11, 2005.
I. Presentation by Eminent Scholars: In each semester at least
one eminent professor is invited for delivering a lecture/presenting
a paper on the contemporary issues of population. Under this programme,
Professor P. C. Mohanty (retd. from Bombay University), delivered
a lecture in the Department on February 26, 2005 on the "Prospects
of Population Studies in the Job Market".
II. Student Seminar: Each student is to select a theme and prepare
a paper in consultation with the teacher and present it in the
seminar in each semester. The detailed programme in this regard
